As summer rapidly approaches it is important to take good care of your feet. Follow these foot care tips to help you keep your feet healthy.
Keep feet clean everyday
- Check water temperature to make sure it is not too hot
- Use warm soapy water and a soft washcloth
Keep feet dry
- Use a soft towel and pat dry (do not rub)
- Dry between the toes
Keep feet soft
- Use lotion on your feet but not between the toes
- Powder may be used between the toes
Keep feet safe
- Never go barefoot
- Always wear shoes and socks
- Use water socks/shoes at the beach or water park
- Try to wear shoes with as much protection as possible
- Avoid treating calluses, corns or bunions without talking to your doctor first.
- Check your feet every day. Look at your bare feet for red spots, cuts, swelling, and blisters. You many need a mirror to look at the bottoms of your feet.
- Your healthcare provider should perform a complete foot exam at least annually or more often if needed
