Super Broccoli

Super Broccoli

Contributed by Fit4D Nutrition & Wellness Coach
Andrea Conner, MPH, RD, CDE, CFT

Broccoli is more than just a pretty floret on the salad bar, it's a superfood! Broccoli is among a class of elite foods possessing powerful medicine like properties known as phytochemicals. The eight known phytochemicals in broccoli are touted as having potential for cancer prevention, reducing risk of stomach ulcers, and maintaining eye health.

Mom was right, eat your broccoli because it's good for you! Broccoli is also a good source fiber, low in calories and high in Vitamin C, Vitamin K, folate and calcium. Because 1 cup of chopped broccoli contains a mere 31 calories, it has little impact on blood sugar and is a great food to choose if you have a weight-loss goal.
